The graduation show of the BA Applied Media represents a diverse range of media and photography practices from the work of Chris Hall who has documented the ever changing beauty of the sea to Jim Byrne who is looking at the impact of light and water on the landscape, his work being an emotional response to the environment he inhabits.
Filmmakers Ben Ward, Jake Thomas and Luke Sterry are commenting on modern society and the impact it’s having on individuals, while Danielle Page and Nykitta Mackenzie have used both film and photography to raise important issues and support local causes. Karen O’Dell is using film and photography to create a website that champions those who voluntarily give their time and support to local organisations. Katy Smith has also looked at the work of young volunteers who are supporting the arts at the Hall for Cornwall.
Dan Philbrooks has produced a creative new music video for local band Blue River and Dan Smallwood is hoping to gain a following on Youtube with his films showing his knowledge of motorbikes and the Cornish roads he rides on.
Print work includes Tom Griffin’s illustrated book about his own experience with mental health issues, while Danny Parker and Taya Portlock have both produced print publications that showcase their photography and design skills but with very different audiences; Danny has created a new skate zine whereas Taya has produced a local magazine that celebrates arts and culture from around the region.
There will also be a screening of work produced with local organisations as part of the Creative Productions in a Local Context module. This includes work done for The National Trust, Hall for Cornwall, Wheal Martyn, Sustrans and St Ives Bay Swim Club.
On Friday 19th May there will be a private view in the foyer of County Hall from 6pm-8pm, this will include a screening of the films in 2N.03
